November is Family Caregiver Month
Every day, millions of people care for their loved ones at home. Family caregivers play a vital, often a unrecognized role, helping with daily tasks, providing emotional support, and balancing other responsibilities, many times with little assistance or training. Nurses witness this dedication every day as they partner with family members to care for patients and their loved ones. Many nurses are also caregivers themselves, supporting loved ones at home while continuing their compassionate work on the job.
Caregiving can be rewarding, but it’s also challenging. Many caregivers experience stress, financial strain, and social isolation.
You can help by:
- Listening and offering a kind word
- Running errands or providing a meal
- Giving them a break with respite care
- Sharing information about local support resources
- Giving yourself a break if you are a caregiver
Take a moment this month to thank a caregiver in your life and offer your support. Even small gestures can make a big difference. |

What's New... in ShiftWizard
Here are a few additions and updates made in the most recent release.

Enterprise Setting
Added a new Profile Timeout Enterprise Setting to allow sites to specify how many minutes users can be inactive in ShiftWizard before they are automatically logged out. The default value is 1440 minutes, the maximum value is 10,000 minutes, and the minimum value is 15 minutes. SuperUsers can follow the steps below to customize the new setting.
- From the top menu, select Superuser > System Settings > Enterprise Settings.
- Search for the Profile Timeout setting.
- Select the Setting Options cell and enter the number of minutes users will be allowed to be inactive before their session times out.
- Select the Save Changes button.

| NOTE: A Session Timeout Warning message displays 1 minute before the user’s session is automatically ended. The warning message will display a countdown, allowing the user to select Yes, Still Working, or No, Log Me Out. If an option isn’t selected before the minute has lapsed, the user will be logged out and the Log In page displays a message stating You were signed out due to inactivity. |

Staff Categories
Resolved the issue where a JavaScript error message displayed when editing settings on the Staff Categories screen. Additionally, an error message now displays under the Name field if a user enters a name that already exists, or if the name has more than 20 characters.
- To view, select Templates > Schedule Items > Staff Categories.
- Select the Edit (pencil) button next to a category > edit field settings and select the Save button.

O / U Shift Type Par Levels Report
Resolved the issue where incorrect Grand Totals displayed on the O / U Shift Type Par Levels Report. Additionally, a new Working column has been added to display the total number of staff members scheduled to work.
- From the top menu, select Reports > Staffing Levels > Par Levels.
- Drag and drop the new Working column from the dark gray bar into the top left corner of the layout pane.

ShiftWizard Tips: Utilizing the Shift Swap Center

Let's get started!
- From the top menu, select the Notification Bell > Shift Swap Center.
|
| |
|
|
| |
- Select the My Posted Shifts tab to view your posted shifts and offered shifts.
- Use the Posted Shifts Swaps to:
- View all pending swaps or gifts you’ve posted.
- Cancel requests if no longer needed.
- Monitor status: once another staff member accepts, the swap moves to manager approval.
- Use the Offered Shift Swaps to:
- View shifts you’ve offered in response to others’ posted swaps.
- Cancel offers if your availability changes.
- Wait for the other staff member to accept before manager approval is triggered.
- Select the Other Posted Shifts tab to view shifts posted by others.
- Use the Other Posted Shifts to:
- Browse shifts posted by other staff.
- View only shifts you’re eligible to work will appear.
- Use the appropriate action button: Take, Accept, Reject, or Swap.
- For swaps, the original poster must accept your offer before it moves to manager approval.

- Dark green icon = swap request
- Blue icon = swap requested
- Yellow icon = swap pending
- Green icon = swap approved
- Red icon = swap denied

- Select the Manager Approval tab.
- Use the Manager Approval tab to:
- View shifts that have been accepted by both parties for a swap or gift.
- Approve or deny a request as a Manager.
- Upon approval:
- The schedule updates automatically.
- A green ribbon icon appears on both calendars (Shift Swap Approved).
- Select the History tab.
- Use the History tab to:
- View all current and past swap / gift activity for your department.
- For audit trail or to confirm completed swaps.

General Best Practices
- Communicate clearly with your team before initiating swaps.
- Only offer shifts you’re qualified to work.
- Monitor your calendar for pending swaps (yellow ribbon = awaiting approval).
- Cancel unused or outdated requests to keep the system clean.
- Managers should review approvals promptly to avoid schedule gaps.
